We organise on Meetup, please sign up at the web-link below.
This is a lovely walk along the River Cam Towpath, taking in many views along the way. Enjoy sightings of wild birds and narrow boat homes as we make our way to Waterbeach from the transport hub of Cambridge North Train Station.
We are likely to see the rowing teams racing or practising on this stretch of the river, and there will be other walkers and cyclists using this path, so please take care.
The path gets quieter as we pass by Milton and head towards Waterbeach. We will stop for lunch at the half-way point of Cow Hollow Wood, which is managed by the Woodland Trust. This is next to Waterbeach Train Station and The Bridge Pub.
After experiencing this enchanting woodland, we will head back to the River Cam Towpath, towards Milton Country Park. We will enter via a “secret” path and meander along the lakeside towards the Visitors’ Centre and Café. There are toilets there.
Next, we take the bike/pedestrian bridge over the A14 towards Cambridge North Train Station.
Meet at Cambridge north railway station at 10.30am.
For rail, the 9.58 from Ely arrives at 10.12, and from Cambridge the 10.23 arrives at 10.28. Cambridge north has good bus links via the guided bus e.g. the B service. Car parking is available at Cambridge North station.
Please bring a packed lunch and a drink, sun hat, sun cream and waterproofs.
