This walk is a variation on a Ramblers Walking route. It is a circuit of hills and valleys to the north of Cardiff, close to the council boundary with Caerphilly. It includes an initial stretch on the disused railway track of the Taff trail which provides opportunities to discover relics of the local industrial history. We climb to 273 metres on a gentile approach to Craig yr Allt which provides fantastic views to north and south. We then pick up some little used paths through fields and woodland before joining the Ridgeway track which leads us to the Wenallt Forest before dropping back down to the start point.

Given the amount of autumnal rain there is some serious mud and collection of water so gaiters (and waders) are advisable. On a clear day this is a fabulous walk. It is definitely a grade 3 for me but for the younger / fitter, it might only be a grade 2. Look forward to seeing some of you on Sunday.
