Overview

This version of the Charles Dickens Trail starts from the car park of the Ocean View Hotel, leaves Shanklin past the station before following a disused railway line to Upper Hyde. From there it joins the main CD trail to the high point of Shanklin Down, then south along the ridge of Luccombe Down - one of the best on the island. From the radar station on Boniface Down it drops down a picturesque valley towards Ventnor.

It then continues westwards at a high level before dropping onto the coastal path at Orchard Bay. It then turns north east along the coastal path to rejoin the main Charles Dickens Trail at Ventnor Bay. Instead of reclmbing to catch the bus from Bonchurch, this version follows the coastal path through Luccombe village all the way back to Shanklin.
