Our walk will be a circular starting at The Hop Pole, just outside Retford on the A620.
It is a little over 6 miles long and is simple but delightful.
We will stop for a coffee stop, so remember to bring a drink along. We will also stop for a picnic lunch, so remember your sandwiches!
We walk 2.3 miles North on the Chesterfield canal to Hayton, talking coffee at the visitor moorings … one bench .
The tow path is straight forwards ( great for dogs off leads if they don’t swim! ) a little overgrown to the sides but easily passable.
The next stretch takes us on a track to Clarborough Church- and we lunch in the graveyard. 2 benches, (not together- one in shade) this is at 4 miles in. This track gains a little height but nothing serious …
After a very short stretch on a rural road we rejoin the track and rising a little more we wend our way back. The last stretch is through a shaded woodland bit where there are roots and a bit of uneven footing … then just before the end we cross the railway- 2 stiles . Here dogs will have to be lifted unless they are small .
There are pleasant spots and open views and practically impossible to get lost.
