Overview

Beginning from Colwell village, the walk crosses the A68 twice and skirts two reservoirs, Colt Crag and Hallington. In between the reservoirs, the walk visits Thockrington Church (familiar from last year’s walk from Great Bavington) with panoramic views and an interesting history.

Terrain: Gently undulating with no steep sections, mainly footpaths and farm roads, several stiles.

Refreshments: Brief stop at Colt Crag reservoir if desired, then lunch stop at Thockrington Church. Refreshments afterwards at the Errington coffee shop, which closes at 5pm.

Starting point/parking: Colwell is just off the A68, 5 miles north of the Errington roundabout. Heading north down Stagshaw Bank on the A68, turn right at the crossroads with the A6079/B6342 (towards Rothbury). Colwell is about half a mile along this road. The best parking place is a large lay-by on the right at the entrance to the village (there’s a road sign saying W Woodburn 9) and the walk will start from there. Grid ref: 954755
