Overview

From the car park we wend our way to Maiden Erlegh lake, Earley Station, High Wood and down to Thames Valley Park.  Crossing Horseshoe Bridge we do a loop around Tesco, go under the railway then visit Reading Abbey ruins and Forbury Gardens.  We return to the start alongside the Kennet, through Palmer Park, and Reading University’s Whiteknights campus.  This is a suburban walk on generally well-surfaced paths (so minimal mud) and quiet roads which link many green spaces.  Registered assistance dogs only.

The start can be accessed by the no 21 bus. Alight at Chalfont Way Circle, turn left at the red post box and the CP is 200m along Chalfont Way.  A bus is timetabled to leave Reading Station at 9:55am and reach Chalfont Way Circle at 10:12am.  Buses back to Reading are at 20-minute intervals.

Please note: deep flooding of paths alongside the river Loddon has caused the cancellation of the original walk scheduled for same time, starting location and length, "The Coombes from Lower Earley".
