Overview

A circular 8 mile walk starting at Locks Gate Quarry (SX 6962 7393). Proceeding south, we descend via quiet road and footpath to Sweaton; then a short stretch of quiet road to Leusdon, where we follow woodland tracks to Buckland Bridge, whilst descending around 500 ft. A short stretch of very quiet road, then footpaths alongside the scenic River Dart, bring us to New Bridge, and beyond to Wellsfoot Island. After which we turn and gain around 450 ft of altitude towards Aish Tor, joining Dr Blackall's Drive before the summit. Following Dr Blackall's north, we pass spectacular views of the Dart Valley, Meltor and Beltor, before making the ridge. Then down, over open moorland with splendid views towards the North Moor, to Locks Gate.
