A moderate walk around the southern side of Durham city. Having admired views of Durham cathedral and the riverside, we'll move on to the hills, woods and countryside to the south, exploring some of the local history as we go. Local historian Ross Hamilton will join us to provide insights into historical events and the context to Durham growing over the centuries to become the city it is today.
If you wish to join the group at the start of a walk please contact the walk leader prior to the walk

A good way to get to Durham city centre from Darlington is by train. The Market Place, where we'll start our walk, is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the railway station. If you wish to drive, there are various options for parking; the Prince Bishops car park is the closest to the Market Place.
Two train services from Darlington will get us there in good time for the 10.30 start. An LNER Train will leave Darlington at 9.35 and arrive in Durham at 9.51. A TransPennine train will leave at 9.47 to get to Durham at 10.02. Please ensure you allow sufficient time prior to departure to purchase your ticket.
For anyone wishing to travel by road, we will meet at Vane Terrace to share cars and will leave promptly at 9.30.
