West Mendip Walkers easy to moderate 9.5 miles (15.3 kms) circular walk from Withypool (TA24 7RB) with 1,100 feet (335 metres of ascent). The walk starts from the small car park to the West of the main centre of Withypool. From here there is a short, uphill, road walk before turning South-West to ascend Withypool Hill which has a Bronze Age stone circle. From here we head South, down Worth Lane and then over fields and open moor to Tarr Steps, a clapper bridge across the River Barle in the Exmoor National Park. From Tarr Steps the rest of the walk is a delightful 4 mile meander North on a good path on the banks of the River Barle back to Withypool. There is a short (0.5 mile) walk on a quiet road at the culmination of the walk back to the Car Park. The walk is very dog-friendly with the odd stile and plenty of water stops if it's hot on the day.

There are refreshments at the Withypool Tea Room, close to the Car Park, for those who want them but this won't be organised as part of the walk. The Tea Room has tables outside so it is dog-friendly.
