Enjoy this scenic circular walk from Chingford station through Epping Forest. Our walk begins at historic Queen Elizabeth 1’s Hunting Lodge followed by the peaceful Connaught Water teeming with birdlife. We move north through the forest and then explore Loughton Camp, an Iron Age fort giving us echoes of the forest’s ancient past. Lunch break at High Beach with its impressive views and a choice of picnic, food kiosk or pub lunch at King’s Oak. Sturdy shoes are recommended as we venture beyond the main paths into the heart of the woods. Toilets at station and Hunting Lodge. Opt out point - only by taxis to a station. Chingford is within Freedom pass zone.
Please be aware that when I did the reccie last Wednesday there was a lot of mud and water around Epping forest. This means that we will be keeping mostly to the main paths which are on the whole are OK. Walking boots are essential.
