This 7.5 miles there and back walk from Reading follows the route of the Kennet & Avon Canal, through the Fobney Island nature reserve and a beverage/food stop at the Cunning Man pub.
Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can (see Website link), so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.
Pace: gentle.
Walk details
We will start our walk outside the front of Reading Minster, which is very close to the start of the canal footpath. Here we will follow the Kennet & Avon Canal for about 3 miles west of Reading until we reach the Cunning Man pub. Here we will hopefully enjoy a nice summer's evening in the beer garden with some drinks/food before returning the way that we came back to Reading.
There is the option to make this a shorter linear walk. You may get the Lime bus from the Cunning Man (bus stop just outside the pub) back to Reading.
Travel details
By public transport
The closest train station is Reading train station which is a five minute walk away from the start point (Reading Minster). Local buses also stop at St Mary's Butts outside Reading Minster from around Reading, Bracknell, Newbury etc.
By car
The easiest and most convenient place to park in the centre of Reading would be in The Oracle multistorey car park. Payment by card machine. There are cheaper evening tariffs after 18:30 (£2.50 all evening I when last went).
