Overview

Probably one of the best short walks I've ever done. Praise indeed from a seasoned walker!!
At approximately 7 miles this is a relatively easy walk up one of the smaller fells but it does offer superb views to the Pennines, the southern Lake District and Morecambe Bay for what is a modest climb. It is also easy to reach with the start being just a few hundred meters from Junction 36 of the M6.
Leave the M6 at junction 36 taking the A65 toward Crooklands/Endmoor. After a short distance you will cross a canal over a small bridge. After the bridge turn immediately right onto an unnamed road quiet road. Head down to the bottom of this dead end where there is ample road side parking beside the canal. Alternatively, park on the first layby on the eastbound side of the A65 which is where we will meet (this is just metres away from the preferred parking mentioned earlier).
We will meet at 11.00am before heading down the now abandoned Lancaster canal then making our way past Holme Park Farm and up toward the summit of Farleton Fell. There is one tricky short stretch but otherwise the walk is easy. Farleton offers some impressive examples of limestone pavement and there are a small number of rare breed White Park cattle roaming the fell.
After a gentle descent back to the start we will then head to a local pub or cafe for a well deserved drink.
Please note that this walk is not suitable for dogs.
