A gentle walk connecting the three villages of Fowlmere, Foxton and Shepreth, including the boardwalk in the wonderful RSPB site in Fowlmere.
Leaving from The Chequers pub in Fowlmere we head out of the village to pick up the footpath to cross the fields(usually muddy) and the brook to climb up West Hill to Foxton Wood, planted in 1995. Dropping down into Foxton we leave the village to cross the A10 and follow the narrow public footpath through the wood, passing the private Shepreth Lake. As we walk through Shepreth you may catch the scent and sounds of wolves at the Wild life Park . Arriving at the old mill on the bend we pass behind it , walk alongside the River Shep eventually reaching the RSPB reserve and make use of the boardwalk to exit the reserve on the southern side. The walk up the hill to Manor Farm affords views of the airfield – now used for aerobatic training and we are just 15 minutes from the pub and a pint or whatever takes your fancy.
Please do not use the pub car park, but local roads. There is also a car park behind the abandoned Swan House Inn, virtually next door.
