Overview

Come and join us on my Goring walk. This short 6-mile walk will mean we only cross the River Thames (hopefully the levels have reduced) – so hopefully no wet feet. We head out of Goring and up towards the Holies Hanging, across to Lardon Chase (the views here are incredible). Over to Lough Down and then we start our descent into Streatley and back to the station at Goring.

Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can (see Website link), so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.

Walk details

The walk starts with us leaving Goring Station and taking the back streets of Goring to the River Thames. Here we cross over the Thames – hopefully The Swan pub has dried out after being recently flooded.

We follow the back street paths up to the A329 and start our ascent up to Holies Hanging. The incredible views of this area start! The walk will then take us to Common Wood and onto some of the local back roads. We join back up with Common Wood and head over towards Lardon Chase.

Fingers crossed for a clear dry day to appreciate the view across Goring and Streatley from this point. After catching our breath from the views we continue over to Lough Down and start our journey back towards the station.

We pass through Streatley – don't be too jealous with some of the houses here – they are quite big! We come back past The Swan pub, head over the River Thames and make our way back to the station.

For those who will need a drink after the walk we have the chance to stop at The Catherine Wheel pub before reaching our final stop back at the train station.
