This walk, mainly on farm tracks and uneven paths through woodland and farmland, takes us round the perimeter of Gladhouse Resevoir after a short climb to visit a ruined Castle. With some walking on quiet roads, our route passes through an attractive landscape with great views across the water.
Starting at Gladhouse Reservoir Hill Walkers Car Park, we walk to Moorfoot Farm and climb upwards towards the Moorfoot Hills. We stop at the 16th Century Hirendean Castle ruin to enjoy views and a coffee break.
Returning back downhill towards Moorfoot Farm, we turn right along farm track road and head towards Gladhouse Reservoir, where we walk anticlockwise around the perimeter of the loch back to the car park, stopping for lunch along our way.
At the end of the walk there is a fence to climb over to get back to the cars.

Pentland View Car Park, Lanark Road. Accessible by Lothian Bus Service 44 using Pentland View Court bus stop. Meet 08.45 for 09.00 departure
Start Point: Gladhouse Reservoir Hill Walkers Car Park. Travel Directions from meeting point: From Pentland View Car Park join Edinburgh City Bypass heading East. Take the Lothianburn exit onto A702. Follow the road, and take A703 (Penicuik) to Damhead. Go along A703, after a big roundabout, take the left exit (B7028) to Auchendinny, pass Loanstone. After Loanstone turn left to join B6372 (Gorebridge). Continue (straight over the crossroads) for about 3.5 miles. Turn right at the junction and continue for 1.7 miles. Turn left into a small road marked as No Access to Gladhouse Reservoir/ Moorfoot Farm Only. The car park is 1 mile on the left marked Private Car Park Hill Walkers Only.
