The walk on Saturday will visit the remains of two historic kirks, in two very different glens. We'll meet in Blair Atholl in the car park of the Atholl Country Life Museum (NN 875 655) and drive in convoy up Glen Fender to the end of the metalled road at Tomnaguie. A short walk uphill on a track takes us near the Glen Fender Native Woodland Project established two years ago by the Atholl Estates and where native trees are being planted in an area protected from deer; there is already evidence of habitat changes. A short walk over grass takes us to the remains of remote Lude Kirk and then to Kirkton of Lude where we will be regaled with coffee and stories of the kirk and surroundings by Roger and Claire, who've been coming to this area for years. We return to Tomnaguie via a a grass track (5km round trip) and re-position the cars in the Bridge of Tilt car park for a contrasting walk of 3km, largely level and on paths through Old Blair to the ruins of St Bride's Kirk and graveyard where Dukes of Atholl and John Graham of Claverhouse are buried.
