We are the Bolton Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Starting from Stockport Railway Station, walk to Vernon Park (toilet), then along the Goyt Valley Way to Chadkirk Chapel (lunch stop), then continuing along the Peak Forest Canal to Marple, passing over the Marple Aqueduct.
Quite a few undulations with short ascents/descents sometimes with steps.
A little muddy in places.
Optionally bring a packed lunch for a short lunch stop, weather permitting.

Outside Stockport Railway Station (Stockport side) The start of the walk may be delayed for up to an hour if trains from the Bolton area are delayed. Call me on the day if you are delayed. If using a car it is probably best to park at Marple Bridge/Brabyns Brow Car Park. Since 8th January 2026 it is now pay & display, but not expensive, £2 for 8 hours. Then the 383 bus from the Marple Bridge bus stop adjacent to the car park getting off at the Grand Central bus stop on the A6, then a 5 minutes walk to Stockport railway station.
Marple Railway station. Train to Manchester Piccadilly at 3.07pm and approx. every 30 minutes.
