A pleasant circular walk from the Cumbrae Ferry slip to Millport following the quiet inner circle road with some diversion through farm paths and tracks. We stop for lunch at the site of the Glaid Stone which is the highest point on the walk. Here there are good views of Largs, Fairlie and the North Ayrshire Hills. Descent into Millport passes the small and interesting Cathedral of the Isles which features a 123-foot steeple and magnificent stained glass. Following a coffee stop at the Garrison House Cafe in Millport we return to the ferry slip via the inner road avoiding the busier coastal route.
This is a C+ graded walk. The climb by road to the Glaidstone is quite steep but the ascent is relatively gradual. The views from the top are worth it. The farms paths and tracks can be very muddy so boots are essential and gaiters recommended.
This is a car sharing walk with meeting place at Clarkston Hall Car Park at 8.15am to leave at 8.30am sharp.
