Overview

We begin the walk from Great Longstone before heading towards Monsal Head and one of the most spectacular and well known views of the Peaks.  We will then head towards Ashford under Water for a short stop to take in the pretty village.

The next part of the walks sees us ascend fairly steeply in the direction of Sheldon (not him from the Big Bang Theory) before stopping for lunch with a view over to the Magpie Mines.

After lunch we will descend to the Monsal Dale and stop for a few scenic photos next to the waterfall.

Finally we head over the viaduct and  through the Cressbrook tunnel before heading back to the pub for a well earned shandy.  Lunch required.

The walk starts from the White Lion pub in Great Longstone (DE45 1TA). The pub has a large car park which we have use of under the proviso that we make use of their facilities afterwards (a tricky business for Staffs Walkers, I know!)
