The Green Lochan & Loch Morlich circ
MEET 0900 – START 1000 – Grade C+ - OS Sheet 36 – NGR NH976097
Park in the Loch Morlich Watersports car park at the far end of the loch – please note there is a £4 charge. We start with a beautiful walk amongst ancient Caledonian pines on a path that ascends to the magical An Lochan Uaine - the Green Lochan. There is a short section of this Lochan path which is more tricky with stones and roots to negotiate as it descends to the water so walking poles are useful here. The rest of the walk is on really well made & established tracks and paths. We make our way back towards Loch Morlich by a different path alongside the river, with good views of the Loch and the peaks of the Cairngorm mountains. We then do a charming circuit around Loch Morlich which is surrounded by forests and fringed by beaches, with fine views of the mountains above and a good chance of seeing Goldeneye, red-throated divers and even otters.
