PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF START TIME due to the cancellation of the previous train (which the leader, as well as many other attendees, would have been on).

This 9 mile circular walk from Guildford follows the Wey navigation before ascendimg a into the Surrey hills visiting St Martha's Church.

Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can (see Website link), so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.

Walk details

The walk starts out with an easy walk along the banks of the River Wey before visiting 4 hills for fantastic views across the Surrey Hills first visiting St Catherine's Common, then joining North Downs way to cross the valley before ascending up through Chantry wood and continuing to climb to St Martha's Church where we will stop for lunch. The walk then descends before climbing up again to visit Newlands Corner. After Newlands corner we retrace our steps to Guildford via Pewley Down and visiting Guildford Castle.

If traveling from Reading please take the 10.24am from Reading, arriving in Guildford at 11:09. (The earlier train that was originally listed has been cancelled.)

By car

Parking is available at Guildford station and in several town centre car parks, where charges will probably apply.

Notes

  • Please bring a packed lunch and a drink.
  • It might be muddy – please wear suitable footwear.
