We are going anti-clockwise round the peninsula mostly on tracks with some road walking.
*** 05.00 *** The idea of the early start is to maximise the chances of us hearing the wonderful birdsong ‘dawn chorus’.
On 7th May the sunrise is at 05.20. A dawn chorus habitually occurs in the half hours preceding the sunrise and the half-hour following it.
Early on in the walk we will enter Hambleton Wood and later two further well wooded track paths on the northern side of the peninsula.
At the conclusion of the walk all participant ramblers are invited to join Julie and Gordon at the Hambleton Bakery Exton Café at the north end of Barnsdale for a coffee and bacon butty. The cost is about £8. There are many other small and delicious breakfast options available. The Café Postcode is LE15 8AN.
This is a stile free walk
Dogs are accepted on this walk, although they must be on leads at all times.
A very scenic and well landscaped walk with many views and vistas of Rutland Water. We pass through pleasant small woods too. There are many species of wild fowl to be seen, and the impressive Old Hall perched on the water’s edge shortly after the beginning of the walk.
