Overview

Meet NEW CROSS station SE14 6D (National Rail southeastern, London Overground Windrush Line, Zone 2) at 10.30.

Discover some of the treasures of Deptford and its riverside, along the Thames Path past the site of the historic Deptford Dockyard and Victualling Yard, to South Dock, London's largest working marina, then a stretch of the former Grand Surrey Canal and two much loved local parks, Deptford Park and Folkestone Gardens.

Circular.  A joint walk with London Strollers.

Leader: Chris P

Late Notes for this walk   Please note that surface trains won’t be running to New Cross station – the published start point – on Sunday. However, all surface trains to New Cross Gate and all Overground trains and buses to both New Cross Gate and New Cross stations should be OK.  It is a 10-minute walk from New Cross Gate station to New Cross station.  The walk will still leave at 10.30 am so you may need to adjust your planned journey.

Please also note that the café in Folkestone Gardens only accepts card payments.

General notes on Blackheath Walks

Lunchtimes: Where walk descriptions stipulate a picnic/packed lunch, all walkers are asked to bring one with them. In such cases any lunchtime pub or café visit will be for drinks only. Lunch stops of this kind will last typically for 40-45 minutes, at the leader’s discretion. If, on the other hand, the option of lunch at a pub or café is offered, the duration will usually be about one hour.

Pre-booking is not required for Blackheath Ramblers walks unless indicated otherwise.

Starting times: Leaders do their best to adhere to the train times set out in the programme. However, the National Rail website publishes train timetables only 12 weeks in advance, and engineering work at weekends sometimes causes changes to departure and arrival times. So please check train times with National Rail (0345 748 4950 / www.nationalrail.co.uk) before travelling.

Starting times will not be delayed unless absolutely necessary.

Safety: Please be aware that you take part in all Ramblers walks at your own risk.

Dogs: Some walks are unsuitable for dogs; please check with the leader before bringing one. Walks over 12 miles are unlikely to be suitable.
