This walk will take in Portholme Meadow, famous as the largest water meadow in England and classed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the Great Ouse River and Brampton. This walk could be fairly muddy and a little boggy, due to the nature of crossing a floodplain and running alongside a river.
Meet at Huntingdon Bus Station (Off Walden Rd, Huntingdon, PE29 3PA) at 10am for start at 10:10 for an 8-mile walk.
Please bring snacks and plenty of water, as this is a fairly short walk ending in Huntingdon Town Centre we will stop for some short breaks but not stop for lunch until the end of the walk. I would recommend arriving early if you intend to buy snacks before we start the walk to ensure that we can set off promptly. Whilst there are some small stops on route, it could delay the whole group if we have to make additional stops.
Waterproof walking boots and walking trousers are recommended. The weather is likely to be chilly, so please dress appropriately and wear a waterproof jacket.
There are toilet facilities Huntingdon bus station and at Godmanchester town hall towards the end of the walk.
Getting to Huntingdon:
For those travelling by public transport there is an X3 bus leaving at 09:03 from Drummer Street Bus Station that arrives at Huntingdon Bus Station (bay 7) at 09:55. A Cambridge City Rover ticket is £3.50, however, I would recommend asking about a return ticket as this may be cheaper. Buses depart at 10 mins passed each hour for the return journey.
Alternatively, Huntingdon Train Station is only a 12-minute walk from the bus station, if you are coming by train please take extra care to be on time and check for strikes or engineering works before setting off.
If coming by car, there is a small multi-story car park at Princes Street Car Park, Princes Street, Huntingdon PE29 3TB. It is pay and display, I would recommend selecting the 4-hour option which is £3.20, however, the walk should only take 3 hours.
