This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
Part 9 of our plan to complete the Icknield Way Path - 114 miles following “the oldest road in Britain”. Join us for any or all of these walks!
Please note this is a linear walk from Linton to Dullingham. We recommend drivers park in Cambridge, where we will meet to catch the bus to Linton, then return to Cambridge from Dullingham by train.
This is our first stage of the Path entirely in Cambridgeshire and explores the rolling countryside, farm tracks and pretty villages of the southeast corner of the county. A gradual ascent out of Linton quickly rewards with wide views and we'll soon pass a local landmark, the Rivey Hill Water Tower. Making our way via wheat fields, we'll join the course of a Roman road which survives as a greenway rich in wildflowers, before reaching the attractive village of Balsham on country tracks. As well as traditional thatched buildings and a large 13th century church, here we will see an Icknield Way Path milestone.
Leaving the village we'll likely see the first of many horses and continue on wide byways past Wadlow Wind Farm, stopping for lunch at the edge of a field (bringing a packed lunch and something to sit on is recommended). If we're lucky there'll still be lots of butterflies and bees to spot as we make our way to Willingham Green and Brinkley, then onto Burrough Green where we have the option for refreshments at The Bull pub.
The trail then takes us through real horse-country, with many stables and stud farms dotting the area, before we finally leave the Icknield Way to head west into the picturesque village of Dullingham. Time dependent, there may be a chance to visit the friendly local pub after taking in the village pond, church and many thatched dwellings. We'll ultimately follow the road leaving Dullingham towards the railway station, which is on the outskirts of the village, to catch the train back to Cambridge.
Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Please:
DO NOT book onto a walk unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.
UPDATE YOUR RSVP. We understand ‘life happens’ so if you need to change your RSVP please do this at least 24 hours before the walk and before booking closes to enable someone else to take your place.
DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk if it is fully booked.
*TAKE NOTE that if you no-show and/or cancel after the booking closing deadline three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.*
Bring a packed lunch/snacks and drinks, appropriate clothing for the conditions and optionally a basic first aid kit & hand sanitiser.
