Condense cars and drive to Blackmuir Wood Forestry Car Park, Strathpeffer (50 miles/1 ¼ hours travel (OS 26 NH 479574) ). Walk on a forestry path to the Touchstone Maze (81 stones arranged on the design of a prehistoric labyrinth). Continue on a track gently uphill to gain a saddle, then ascend to the top of Knockfarrel where there are remains of a vitrified iron age fortress. Return to the saddle, then continue along the ridge before descending to a lower path which will lead us back to the car park.
Option of refreshments in Strathpeffer and a short walk to view Pictish stones.
