Overview

Saturday 15th July Meet 10.30 am at Leigh-on-Sea Station (car park £3.20 all day at weekends, 10am – 10pm) for one of Gill’s favourite coastal walks from Leigh-on-Sea to Southend. Trains run regularly from Stratford to Leigh - Gill suggests catching a train at approximately 9.25am from Stratford which arrives at about 10.15 at Leigh. At Stratford, disembark from the left-hand side of the Central Line train and meet Gill at the top of the escalators at 8.50 am before going down to buy return tickets to Southend. You may purchase your ticket in advance at your local train station to save queueing here. Remember to show them your Freedom Pass and Senior Railcard if you have them.   We will wander along by the cockle sheds, have coffee beside the sea, stroll along the prom with the option of climbing the cliffs at Westcliff to admire the attractive gardens. The walk finishes just before Southend Pier when you are free to picnic or enjoy a fish and chips lunch. We can return from Southend to Leigh Station by train or bus from the nearby Shopping Centre. Directions will be given on the day for public transport. REMEMBER FREEDOM PASSES AND SENIOR RAILCARDS. You may even wish to extend the day by visiting the Pier!                                    Grid Ref: TQ831857 Map 175 Postcode SS9 2ET     Leader Gill Clarke
