Overview

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

A short walk with a mixture of town and farmland walking, with a few gentle slopes.

Starting at Letchworth's Mrs. Howard Hall, we will pass through the Ball Memorial Gardens, which has a statue of the Greek poet Sappho. After that, we will head out of town, passing the Central Methodist Church and St. Alban & St Henry VI Church, and several of the older Garden City houses, including one in an ornate Swiss chalet-like style.

Arriving at the village of Willian, we will pass All Saints' Church before heading out into the countryside and following a section of the Garden City Greenway, where we will get some good views across the fields. We then pass the statue of Telford Morton, a noted Letchworth resident, and complete a circuit of Willian Arboretum.

We will pass Willian Pond before heading back into Letchworth, passing St Christopher School, the Old Corner Post Office (unfortunately closed) and the UK's first roundabout, which famously made an appearance in the film, "The World's End" starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Returning to our start point via Broadway Gardens, we will pass Letchworth's independent cinema, which has a striking art deco style. Those who wish to can come for an optional post-walk drink in town.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.
