A modeately strenuous linear walk across the lonely Cambrian mountains from Eisteddfa Gurig to Nant yr Arian via Pumlumon, Y Garn & Hirnant. The route goes along various types of tracks & open hillside scrub with 1 ladder stile & 3 stream crossings. From the start at Esteddfa Gurig it is a track then grassy footpath past the old lead mine workings to the summit of Pumlumon Fawr at 752mts which is the highest point in Ceredigion. Given a clear day there are excellent 360 degree panoramic views. From the summit the route along a ridge is followed to Yr Garn at 684mts, then descend steeply over rough ground & cross a stream on stepping stones. After stretches on a track & minor road with good views of Nantymoch reservoir & dam the Afon Rheidol is crossed & then a bridleway is followed past a bronze age stone circle & cairns plus an Iron age hill fort on the way to Nantyrarian.
If possible use meeting point in Aberystwyth for car sharing arrangements. The cars will take walkers to the finish point at Nant yr Arian where the 0930 X47 bus then takes walkers to the Start point at Eisteddfa Gurig Grid ref SN 798841.
