A circular walk of 10.4kms (6.5 miles) around the picturesque small town of Lochmaben, reputed to be another of the birthplaces of Robert the Bruce. The route passes the site of two castles, a golf course, a hospital and of course, 3 lochs with the highest point of the walk at 80m.
From the car park we go clockwise around the Castle Loch, (passing the one it is named after) before a wooded section takes us into the town. We will stroll past the toilets then loop back to pass the second loch and the second castle site before crossing the golf course – ensuring it is safe to cross!! Looping back towards the village sees a short section of busy road as we pass the hospital and start a short ascent to the highest point of the walk. Dropping slowly downwards we pass the third loch before re-entering the town and walking along roads, past the toilets, and back to the parked cars.
There are toilets in Lochmaben that we will pass on the way out and on our return. Cars will be parked next to Castle Loch (alternative car park up beside the town toilets). The town has shops and a small café. Total ascent is 69m.
