Overview

Starting from Hersmonceux Church, this almost completely flat walk explores the Pevensey Levels SSSI.  Part of the walk uses the 1066 Country Walk, well trodden and easy to follow.  The remainder is over little-used and indistinct tracks, much more difficult under foot thanks to the impact of livestock on the winter mud which has now set hard.  There are sheep and lambs everywhere, and plenty of cattle to keep us company.  We'll stop for lunch by Pevensey Castle (toilets and pub), and there's a cafe at Chilley Farm.

Staring point is outside All Saint's Church Herstmonceux. The church is NOT in Herstmonceux village, but at the end of Chapel Row / Church Road, a turning on the right off the A271 to the east. There should be plenty of space to park.
