Lyreco are Telford's biggest employer with a rooftop solar farm. This walk gives a fascinating insight into how 'sustainabilty' can be incorporated in many ways that foster staff wellbeing and the bottom line, as well as helping the environment. You'll see the 14,000 solar rooftop arrays, electric vehicles buzzing about the warehouse and bees buzzing about the ecological garden. You might meet Winston, or Dave, the company's wellness dog and cat. We also join their work based walk leader after the warehouse tour for a beautiful walk around Granville Country Park Local Nature Reserve to admire rewilded woodlands and heaths with wildflowers and trees growing on old slag heaps. We visit wildflower meadows, old canals and blast furnaces, now pools and impressive ruins with birds, bats, butterflies and at this time of year froglets and tadpoles. We also climb to the 'top of the world' to see across Shropshire and into Wales. This interesting and rewarding walk is part of Telford & Wrekin Council 's Telford Walk Week and non members are very welcome.
No children are permitted due to factory health and safety regulations. No dogs, as there are steep steps and narrow pathways, on both the factory tour and the countryside walk. Please wear robust trainers, walking shoes or similar, as the walk includes some woodland, field and rough surfaced paths. Booking is essential as places are limited to 17 walkers. You can book either by contacting the leader via this website, or email tesramblers@gmail.com or via Telford Walk Week
