We'll catch the 9:14 train to Marple, a scenic ride through the Peak District of 50 minutes. The walk starts at 10:10 from Marple Station. The route takes us past the famous flight of 16 canal locks, and over and then under the Marple Aqueduct. We continue to Etherow Country Park for lunch stop (WC), then follow the River Goyt through Braybyns Park back to the station. (Click on the small map icon to see the route.)
We'll be walking on road, canal towpath and riverside paths, with a few ups and downs. There are 4 stiles and one fallen tree to step over.
Trains back to Sheffield are at 10 minutes past the hour. When I reccied I got an off-peak same day return (which cost £12.25 with a senior railcard). This type of ticket gives more flexibility about time of return. There are a couple of pubs and a cafe at the finish if we need to pass time while waiting for a train.
Please contact the leader in advance if you have not walked with the group before.
