We'll meet in the Park & Ride car park of Old Hill Railway Station, Station Road, then walk to the Dudley Number 2 Canal towpath near Gosty Hill Tunnel. This will be new to most of you. There are Industrial Heritage points of interest to both sides of the canal. Coffee break will be at the Bumble Hole cafe (+ toilets). From there we walk through Netherton Park to Netherton Village, down towards Netherton Reservoir, and through Saltwells, Mousesweet and Willow Carr local nature reserves up to Cradley Heath Railway Station (+ toilets), from where we shall take the train back.
Total ascent 62 meters (gradual), 94 meters descent (gradual), no stiles.
To get to Old Hill Railway Station, I recommend you take West Midlands Railway (direction Kidderminster) which arrives 10.36; free for Concessionary Pass holders. You can join us from Yardley Wood Railway Station at 9.53 (direction Kidderminster), from Moor Street Station (10.11) or Smethwick Galton Bridge at 10.26 if you prefer taking West Midlands Railway from New Street Station (direction Wolverhampton), and of course you can also take a bus into town.
Note: This is a linear walk; we shall be returning via the next stop along the line, Cradley Heath Railway Station. Those who have to pay for tickets should take a day return to Cradley Heath Station.
