Overview

Hello Everyone

Onecote. No, not the Dulux paint, but the lovely village set deep in the Staffordshire Moorlands pronounced "Oncut". We've passed through many times but now we're actually here with walk leader Jean who has crafted a figure-of-eight walk to suit everyone. Complete just the initial 4 mile loop or carry on for the full eight miles via a different secondary circuit. The choice is yours.

It's lumpy hereabouts hence the Moderate tag. Field footpaths in the main, quiet lanes, grassy bits, potential boggy bits, and some stiles too. Poles recommended if you have them.

Fancy it? You're most welcome to join us of course, but please let us know if this is your first time with the group. Thank you. If you've been before just turn up.

Registration: 09.45. Walk start: 10.00.  Walk leader: Jean (07419 113055)

No facilities at the start but toilets are available in either Cheadle or Froghall on the journey up. The Hednesford contingent will go via Cheadle.

🅿️Our thanks to Onecote Village Hall for the use of their car park. We'd like to make a donation to them of £1 per person please. No loose change. Thank you.

🍺☕Post walk refreshments at the Jervis Arms, Onecote.

See you all at Onecote on Sunday morning folks.

Directions primarily for our own members but good for anyone arriving from the south via the A52/A523 Ashbourne to Leek road.

From your home location northwards to Ashbourne where follow the signage for Leek A52. Proceed for 4 miles where the right of way becomes the A523, direction Leek alternative route. Follow the course of the road. After passing through Waterhouses continue for 3 miles to Bottomhouse crossroads, just past the Marek restaurant, where turn right onto the B5053 signed for Onecote. Proceed for 1.5 miles to enter Onecote village down the steep hill.

As the road flattens out turn left into Douse Lane (the only left turn, photo above) then 100 yards later turn left again for the village hall and car park. Drive through the gated entrance and bear left into the car park area, opened specially for us.

This is the very straightforward way. Other routes are shorter but a little more complex.
