Overview

This walk is between 6 and 7 miles long and takes in part of the old Oswestry Racecourse which was built in 1802 in a figure of eight.  We then follow through fields, one of which is an SSSI and at the time of the pre walk, had orchids growing.  We pass around and through deciduous woodland and return to the Racecourse via Offas Dyke Path.  There is only one road section but it has a good footpath (downhill) and takes about five to ten minutes.  There is one stile that is not so good but the rest of the walk is on decent paths and tracks with only one short steep climb.  There are some good views to be had of the Shropshire Plain and the Welsh Hills from various points.

Directions: Take the A483 towards Oswestry and then take the B5069 to Morda on the left. Follow the road through the residential area until you come to a set of traffic lights(just over a mile). Turn left here and then right after 50 yards (ish) onto a road called Welsh Walls. Follow this until you come to the crossroads (take care, it is narrower here and at the time of planning had temporary traffic lights on it). Turn left again and follow the road upwards, keeping to the left (you will see a brown sign high up directing you to the Racecourse. After a mile (ish) look for an alternate green and copper beech hedge on your right with a post box just beyond. You then come to the crossroads at the top of the hill with an old black and white road sign for Trefonen/Selattyn. Turn left here onto Back Racecourse Lane. Follow this for about a quarter of a miles passing two 'no access roads, on your right until you come to the free car park on the right.
