From Tipton we travel through a nature reserve and along canal towpaths then a long steep uphill walk to Turners Hill, the highest point in the West Midlands at 271 metres. The remainder of the walk is downhill or flat as we head down to the canal via a golf course and estate roads eventually coming to the Netherton Canal Tunnel which is 2768 metres ( 1.73 miles ) is the longest walkable canal tunnel in the Uk.
Please note that the tunnel towpath is quite potholed in places, some of which have an inch or two of water in them. Also the tunnel is unlit so a torch and leak -free boots are a must and a spare pair of socks might be worthwhile.
We leave the meeting point in Walsall promptly at 09:15am. The start time is the time the actual walk is due to start.
We regret we cannot allow dogs other than registered assistance dogs on Walsall Group walks.
Booking is not necessary for this walk.
Please notify the leader if you intend to travel direct to the walk start.
Walkers will need a packed lunch.
