We will cross the river at Ovingham and enter the ancient woodland area of Whittle Dene where the landscape has remained unchanged since the early 1600's. Passing the rural cabins that were originally built as rural retreats (but then used for evacuees during WWII), we will see the remains of a water-driven mill that milled corn and powered cotton bleaching. From here we will follow woods and fields until we reach the historical agricultural village of Ovington. Original 17th century buildings still stand that were used for malting and brewing at the Old Brewery. From here we head for Stocksfield and then follow the River Tyne back along to Low Prudhoe via Eltringham Woods. This is a beautiful walk taking in nature at its best best along the way.
