Here is your opportunity to experience the unique phenomena of Parys Mountain in all its glory! The copper mine here was once the greatest in the world and this walk will help you understand its origins and how it was worked.
We will walk from Amlwch Port on good paths across the fields to approach the mountain from the north east. We will follow paths opened up by the Ynys Môn Ramblers footpath maintenance team, the Silver Slashers, to the eastern end of the mountain, passing many settling lagoons on the way. From there we will walk beside the great pit, where you can see into the depths of the former copper mine. Then onward to the windmill and the engine house before making our way back to the start point across the fields.
The walk has gradual slopes and no steep hills. Paths are generally good but some sections are on loose stone and gravel so suitable footwear is recommended.
The walk is suitable for well behaved dogs on short leads but please note we may encounter sheep and cattle.
The toilets at Amlwch Port opposite the Vaults PH are likely to be open. But please don’t park here. Park for free at the far car park which is past the harbour at the Port and beyond the Sail Loft former cafe. Please aim to arrive at 9:45am for a 10:00 am start. Bring a picnic lunch.
After the walk, the Vault pub may be open and there is a cafe just around the corner.
Booking is requested. Please text me, Dave on 07908 128768 and I will confirm your place.
