A leisurely linear smorgasbord of touristic treats. First to the Science Museum to see just one exhibit, the aircraft in which Alcock and Brow crossed the Atlantic in 1919, then north to the Albert Memorial, the epitome of Victorian Gothicky excess. Eastward to Rotten Row (why rotten?) and the Diana Fountain. On around the eastern end of the Serpentine to its Boathouse to embark on a 30-minute pedalo cruise (weather permitting). Back on land, after a picnic lunch, we cross the Serpentine Bridge to pass Peter Pan and the Italian Fountains. Finally, we search Leinster Terrace for a trompe d’oeil. The walk ends at Notting Hill Station, with the option of an extension to nearby Campden Hill Rd to view the characterful interior of 4.5 miles the Windsor Castle pub. (Entry to the Science Museum is free and you don’t have to book, but (on land) it is recommended – if you do, select the 10.45 am slot. The cost of 30 minutes of pedalo is £10.20 for Standard Adult, £8.20 for Concessions, and £6.75 before 12.00 noon). FINISH: Circa 14.30
