A moderately-paced circular walk led by Maeve K (Mobile No: 07811 094646 - day of walk only) joint with Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Group through woods, farmland, open country and pretty villages. Panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from Ivinghoe Beacon and autumn colours in the ancient woods of the Ashridge Estate.
Route: From Tring we climb steadily uphill on the Ridgeway with the path becoming steeper as we near Ivinghoe Beacon. Descending from the Beacon we go towards Little Gaddesden on the Icknield Way. After the lunch stop we enter the beechwoods of the Ashridge Estate from where we descend to the picturesque village of Aldbury before finishing at Tring Station.
Undulating terrain in the first part of the walk as we ascend the escarpment to reach the Beacon. More level areas in much of the walk from lunch.
Walking poles advised if you use them as ascending/ descending the Beacon could be slippery after rain as could be the descent to Aldbury.
Walking boots necessary to navigate areas of mud we may encounter in the Ashridge Estate.
No toilets at Tring Station, but toilets at Bridgewater Arms in Little Gaddesden and Ashridge Visitor Centre.
Lunch stop: Picnic at Little Gaddesden with refreshment opportunity at the Bridgewater Arms
