Walk details
This will be a short urban walk taking us past or through some of the sights of Oxford, including the Castle mound, Christ Church Meadow, the Radcliffe Camera and the University Parks, before finishing at the Cherwell Boat House for those attending our punting social afterwards.
Please note that this is a linear walk specifically tailored to those attending the social – you’re welcome to join the walk even if not going to that afterwards, but will need to make your own way back at the end. Note also that, depending on our progress, the route may be shortened if necessary to ensure that we arrive on time for the social.
Travel details
By public transport
From Reading, take the 09:15 CrossCountry train, arriving non-stop into Oxford at 09:38. The walk leader will be on this train, so if it is delayed then the start of the walk will be.
There are also a variety of bus routes into Oxford from the surrounding area, including several Park & Ride services. Please allow plenty of time if taking these, as we will be setting off promptly after the train from Reading arrives.
By car
Parking is available at the the station, or at other car parks in central Oxford, but significant charges will apply and using one of the Park & Ride sites or travelling from outside the city by train may be a better option.
If driving, please be aware of the Botley Road closure, and allow plenty of time to get through traffic, pay for parking, and make your way to the start point at the front of the station – once the train from Reading has arrived we will not be able to wait for those who are delayed, in order to finish in time for the social afterwards.
Notes
- Please feel free to contact the leader with queries about the walk, or if you are delayed on the day.
