A lovely walk but requires some effort.
We start gently with a lovely woodland walk beside the river Derwent then an amble across fields to Darley Dale. A coffee stop allows for a visit to St. Helen's church and its 2000 year old yew. We cross the river at Darley Bridge.
Going from river to moor necessarily involves ascent. This starts off with a long gradual pull on tarmac then becomes a much steeper rocky path. The ascent continues but becomes less steep. We have lunch when we reach Stanton moor.
Stanton moor is pretty and interesting. We continue a gradual climb, visiting the cork stone then reach the trig point at the highest point of the moor. Then we wend via the king stone and nine ladies stone circle to the tower at the other side of the moor.
After some undulations through more woodland and varied countryside, rather overgrown in some places, it is then pretty much downhill back to Rowsley.
