The coach, provided by JH Coaches, will leave from the old Civic Centre car park, Chester le Street, DH3 3UA at 8.30am prompt. Parking is free on a Sunday, but please arrive 15 minutes earlier to allow time to board.
Walking boots and shoes can be worn on the outbound journey (this will enable you to hit the ground running) but not on the return journey. Clean shoes can be left in the boot of the coach for your return journey. Two 'domino cards' will be passed along the coach on the return journey (before you fall asleep). If everyone takes a number at £1 each there will be two lucky price winners of £12 with the remaining £32 going to our coach driver.
As the bus nears Scarborough, those of you wanting to do the longer walk will get off at Cloughton with your Walk Leader, Brian Scott. We will then continue on to Scarborough.
When you get off the bus, please listen carefully to any instructions from the driver regarding the pick-up point for our return. The coach will depart Scarborough at 6.00pm prompt. Again, please arrive in good time to allow for boarding.
Long Walk details: Approximately 8 miles
We alight the coach at Cloughton and immediately head east towards the coast. After an easy ten minute walk we then take the southern route of the Cleveland way. Its then a simple matter of following the Cleveland Way all the way to Scarborough. Please be aware that the route will not be recce'd beforehand. A few ups and downs can be expected. We conclude the ramble at the Scarborough Cliff Railway.

Short Walk details: 5 mile 'Scarborough Sights & Sounds' option:
This walk is mostly easy with a few moderate ups and downs . After leaving the coach, we will walk along the main street for a while before heading North on footpaths and an old railway track to reach the Secret Garden and the old cemetery (some people are dying to get in here). Shortly after we enter, and meander through, Peasholm Park with waterfalls, ducks, squirrels and a Japanese pagoda. Then continue our stroll towards the coast, where we turn south, heading to Anne Bronte's grave, then climb up to the ruins of the Medieval castle, on the site of an ancient stronghold with extensive coastal views. We will slowly descend to the harbour and the pier where there are public toilets which cost 40p to enter.
Our walk continues along the seafront promenade with the usual 'entertainment', cafes and pubs on the other side of the road. At this point, some people may want to explore this area and leave the walk. Please let me know if you want to do this and I will give you directions back to the coach.
We continue to follow the prom, hopefully enjoying the sun, sea and ice cream (I will not be having a black ice cream this time as that's a Whitby thing!). Passing the Scarborough Big Wheel and the famous Grand Hotel high above us, we will arrive at the Blue roundabout. Here we turn inland to meet a large circular building, 'The Rotunda Museum of Coastal Heritage and Geology' and then climb steadily up to the Grand Hotel itself, or use the Cliff Lift if it is in operation. From here you may walk along the Blue Bridge to enjoy the views and possibly take some photos. From the bridge, we leave the sea and head for the 'city streets'. The main street has all the usual shops and again if people want to explore this area, ditto as before.
The final short stretch follows the main street back to the Train and Bus Station from where we disembarked. Passing on the way a very large Wetherspoons, The Lord Rosebery, an old and classic pub. It might be a little quiet as most people will likely be at church, it's a Sunday after all. The walk terminates here!
From this vantage point, it's only a few hundred yards in a straight line back to the coach pick-up point. Brian will say a 'boozer's walk', like last time, ending in a pub, but he will probably end up in Spoons!
Note—Should anyone need directions back to the drop-off/pick-up point at any time during the day, ask for the Train/Bus Station. There isn't a bus station as such, but the buses all start and finish outside of the Train Station.
There is a small park opposite the Train station where we can sit until the coach arrives.
