This is a valley-level walk that takes in part of the Upper Lune valley and returns to Sedbergh along the Dales Way and past Brigflatts Meeting House (1675), the second-oldest Quaker meeting house in England. Parts of the route are muddy and you will need walking boots as well as waterproof and winter clothing. The start point is Sedbergh People’s Hall in Howgill Lane. Park free in the streets around the People’s Hall or use Loftus Hill car park (parking charges apply) nearby. After crossing the base of Winder (the fell closest to the town) on access land and descending through Craggstone Wood into the Upper Lune valley, the walk then heads south down to Lincoln’s Inn bridge, along the Dales Way and past the Meeting House, which is open to look around until dusk in winter. Finally it returns to the centre of Sedbergh across fields and through the various buildings of Sedbergh School, which is celebrating its 500th anniversary in 2025.
Sorry, no dogs on this walk as there are pregnant ewes in the fields on the route.
