This is an 11 mile walk over flat country from Selsey to Chichester following in large part the route of the Selsey Tram Way which operated from 1896 to 1935. It's a linear walk - our suggestion is to get the 09:05 Stagecoach No 51 bus from Chichester Bus Station to Selsey, arriving at Selsey Beach Road Shops at 09:38. We'll then troup along Beach Road to arrive at East Beach car park from where the tramway originally began.
If it rains the day before, the ground will be very muddy in parts. There are a couple of stiles, but in general terms there are few barriers to contend with. There isn't much shade so hats, sunscreen and plenty of water are essential. Well behaved dogs on leads may be taken if desired.
Those who wish to do so may drive to Selsey Beach car park and get the bus back at the end of the walk - the service is frequent and reliable. Perhaps it's also worth mentioning that the route is never far from the B2145 from where the No 51 bus can be picked up if one feels unable to continue for whatever reason.
