Overview

This beautiful walk explores the uplands of Calderdale, crossing moorlands that are home to rare bird species like curlews, lapwings, golden plovers, and short-eared owls. We will traverse the valleys, woodland and lanes connecting the moors, but be warned - there are some steep inclines at points on our route. Excellent views and excellent company should make this a memorable day out.

Bring a packed lunch to picnic in the fresh air - be aware that there are no en-route refreshment facilities. There is no public transport available to the start but we begin at the Yorkshire Water free carpark at Widdop reservoir for drivers. Parking is, however, limited and popular so arrive early or carshare [recommended.]

Calderdale's climate is notoriously changeable and suitable footwear and clothing for the forecast conditions is strongly recommended.

Dog owners please note: this is sensitive moorland for both lambs and ground nesting birds - all dogs should be kept on a short lead during this time of year.
