West Mendip Walkers 9.25 miles moderate circular walk from Holne Church with approximately 1900 feet of ascent and descent. The walk begins in the small village of Holne which sits above the River Dart, north west of Buckfastleigh. It comprises a mixture of footpaths, bridleways, quiet lanes with the major part across the open moorland of southern Dartmoor. We will be walking parts of the Two Moors Way and the Abbots Way including extensive rough moorland where there are likely to be cattle, ponies and sheep grazing. We pass several cairns near Pupers Hill. At Hickaton Hill and on Dean Moor we pass close to ancient, abandoned settlements. We turn onto our return route near Huntingdon Cross above the Avon Dam reservoir which we skirt to its north before crossing Lambs Moor and joining quiet lanes and tracks once again back into Holne.
