Meet 0830 – Start 1030 – Grade B+ - OS sheet 15 – NGR NH109095
Stac Pollaidh is a very distinctive mountain with its steep pinnacle ridges. From the car park, we climb steeply following the circuit to the back of the hill before branching off more steeply (!!) to the summit ridge on a mostly stone step path. As long as the weather is clear the whole walk has great views over Assynt to the north and the Summer Isles and Achiltibuie to the south and west. The view from the top is absolutely amazing, taking in all the surrounding mountains. Definitely worth the effort! We then have a choice (depending on how soggy the ground is) of returning by circling around the west side, or we can just return the same way. The walk is short but energetic, but we will take our time to savour the views with plenty of breathers as we ascend. The path is rocky and requires care. We won’t be tackling the ascent to the true summit as it involves serious scrambling on crumbling rock!
