A walk over the almost empty downland countryside south of Basingstoke, starting through the magnificent parkland of Hackwood Park, with its fallow deer herd, then passing through the tiny villages of Tunworth and Weston Patrick to end at the hilltop hamlet of Golden Pot, just north of Alton. Return by bus to Basingstoke.
Starting from Basingsoke station, then on quieter routes, avoiding most main roads, passing under the M3 to Hackwood Park. Three stiles, two in the farmland south of Hackwood and one at the end. On tracks through fields and woods for almost the whole way. There might be one ploughed field near the very end. Mud possible in places. A stop for a drinks break is planned at Weston Patrick church. There are regular buses back to Basingstoke from the end of the walk, every hour on Saturdays, so we might have to regulate the pace towards the end to avoid either a mad dash or a long wait!
